Sequoia and Emily presented at the Furious Flower Poetry Conference IV at James Madison University (Sept. 18-Sept.21, 2024). Sequoia discussed the deep roots of elegy tracing back to Lucy Terry Prince’s “Bars Fight,” and Emily’s roundtable presentation focused on #BlackPoetsSpeakOut and especially the work of Lauren Alleyne. We also finally met the eminent elegy scholar Jahan Ramazani in person and were able to reconnect with several contributors to Revisiting the Elegy in the Black Lives Matter Era. https://2024.furiousflower.org/
